Hope Azeda is one of the leading figures in contemporary Rwandan theatre. She is the founder, artistic director and choreographer of Mashirika Creative and Performing Arts, a leading theatre company in Rwanda.

Gloria T. Karengera

Production Manager

Gloria T. Karengera is a lawyer by profession with a master’s degree in business and corporate law. Her love for theatre and performing arts has been a constant from back in her earlier school days to her joining Mashirika in 2001. She now enjoys using her skills to organize various theatre productions and events.

Samuel Kyagambidwa

Finance Manager

Samuel has worked in several ranks as a playwright, actor, director, stage/radio and TV producer and manager both with Mashirika and Urunana DC as main employers. He studied music, dance and drama at Makerere University. In his position as production manager for Urunana DC he oversees all production activities, ensures that all production standards are met and tackles other day to day challenges. It is under this management position that he gained skills in financial management.

Sam says he enjoys working with Mashirika because of its innovation, dynamic, professionalism, team spirit and freedom to create.

Maija Rivenburg

Festival Administration

Secretary at Mashirika Performing Arts and Media Company, describes herself as an arts activist. As Mashirika, her brief involves preparing project proposals, researching grants that the company can apply for, and attending meetings with partners, among other duties

Simon Rwema

Workshop Coordinator

Simon Rwema is a Rwandan lead dancer, actor, drummer and choreographer. He studied History and Literature which were his stepping stones into performative arts. At Ubumuntu he works as actor, choreographer for contemporary dance as well as workshop coordinator.

Theresa Fend

Communication Manager

Theresa Fend combined her interests for arts and culture in her studies of Social and Cultural Anthropology and Theater, Film and Media Studies at the University of Vienna. Previously working as an event- and project- manager in the fields of communication and marketing she discovered her passion for developing creative strategies and integrated concepts. At Ubumuntu she uses her experience to juggle a variety of tasks ranging from classical marketing, online marketing, PR, media cooperations, news lettering to social media management.

Eunice Kangai

Communication Consultant

Theatre, Media and Events! These are some of Eunice’s passions. She has experience working in various advertising and event agencies in Kenya and Rwanda, her roles ranging from copywriter to lead event planner. She is skilled in proposal writing, copy writing, script writing, budgeting, media relations, event design, event production and marketing.

Eunice Kangai graduated from Daystar University with a degree in Communication, Advertising and Broadcast. She is currently pursuing an MBA in Operations Management at the University of Nairobi.

Bethsheba Gathoni

Graphic Designer

Bethsheba Gathoni is a 360 degrees designer, advertiser, marketing and communication specialist. She provides integrated communication solutions designed to help businesses overcome and improve communication challenges while harnessing the abundance of digital media available today.

Matt Deely

Set Designer

Matt Deely studied theatre design on the Motley theatre design course London, Assisted designer Carl Tomms on ‘Indian Ink’ and ‘Three Tall Women’, West End, Associate set designer to Stefanos Lazaridis, working on over 20 operas, most notably, ’Lohengrin’ Bayreuth Festival, ’Faust’ Munich, ’Macbeth’ Zurich, ’Midsummer Night’s Dream’ Venice, ’Greek Passion’, ’Wozzeck’ and Wagner’s ’Ring Cycle’ at the Royal Opera House London and ‘The Italian Season, 2000’ English National Opera, Assisted the Royal Ballet in 2006, with their revival of Oliver Messels, 1946 set design, for Sleeping Beauty.

Brian Geza

Stage Manager

Brian Geza has fourteen years of experience working in the performing arts as a performer, teacher, and choreographer. He has performed on international stages such as Edinburg Festival, FNB Dance Umbrella, and the Africalia Dance Festival. He is the founder and Artistic Director of Zvishamiso Arts, a Mbare based community performing arts troupe, with a mandate to education. Brian is a graduate from Oslo academy of the Arts in Norway where he obtained a master’s of choreography.

Megan Lang

Lighting Designer

Megan Lang is a lighting designer based in New York City. She spends most of her time designing new plays at tiny New York theaters and old plays at large New York area high schools, but frequently ventures into the world of Broadway special effects as well. She occasionally works outside New York, and the opportunity for variety and new experiences is always welcome to her.

RADJABALI Asgar "Bebeto"

Sound Designer

Bebeto brings profound technical knowledge to Ubumuntu’s tech department. He has over 18 years of experience as a sound technician and 14 years of experience as tech director for big events. Among them are the FESPAD 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2013, various theatre shows, corporate conferences and international live concerts. He is the owner of NO LIMIT Ltd, a big event company which provides everything from sound, light, video equipments to the technical crew.
