Ubumuntu Arts Festival Returns, Binding Art to Resilience – The Ubumuntu Arts Festival is back for the fourth edition with incredible performances from around the world. This year, Africa’s largest performing arts gathering for humanity will share the power of art in building personal and community resilience. Attendees will be taken on a journey to explore the notion of resilience and the paths that lead there.

The three-day festival takes place from 13-15 July 2018 at the Kigali Genocide Memorial amphitheatre in Rwanda and entry is free for all.

The festival will include a series of free workshops to promote humanity through art, drama, music and dance. Participants will exchange ideas on how to become champions of humanity in their communities, wherever they live. The festival will also encourage guests to be voices of positive change in a world that needs stories of resilience.

Hope Azeda, Festival Curator, says this year’s festival will focuses on life’s challenges and stories of finding the strength to carry on.

“The Ubumuntu Arts Festival shares stories of humanity from people from all walks of life and experience. This year, we explore the strength people hold within themselves to rise up again. Using art as a tool share stories of resilience, the festival aims to plant the seeds of fortitude. I invite everyone to join us at the Kigali Genocide Memorial for three very special days of art, drama, dance and music.”

The festival will be preceded by Ikaze Night Party – an event that aims to raise funds so that the festival can remain free for all. With a series of cultural and contemporary performances, the evening will be a celebration of culture and talent from around the world – giving a sneak peek of the performances scheduled for the festival itself.

Ubumuntu is the Kinyarwanda word for ‘humanity’, and calls for unity amongst all peoples of the world, promoting love and inclusion and rejecting hatred and discrimination.
